He was the second born in the family, among four brothers and three sisters.He completed his bachelor's degree in Mathematics from the Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University in Uttarakhand.

He left his home around the 1990s to join the Ayodhya Ram temple movement. Around that time, he also came under the influence of Mahant Avaidyanath, the chief priest of the Gorakhnath Math and became his disciple. 


Yogi Adityanath is the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh.

Yogi Adityanath has been an MP from Gorakhpur five times.

Born on 5 June 1972, the story of Yogi Adityanath becoming Chief Minister was no less interesting.

Journalist Manoj Singh from Gorakhpur taking a look at Yogi Adityanath's political journey -It was two decades ago. Some students studying in the Inter College operated from Gorakhnath Temple in Golghar, the main market of Gorakhpur city, came to buy clothes at a shop and had a dispute with the shopkeeper. When the shopkeeper was attacked, he took out the revolver.

Two days later, the students, led by a young yogi, staged a fierce demonstration demanding action against the shopkeeper and also climbed the wall of the SSP residence.

It was Yogi Adityanath, who took initiation from his guru Mahant Avaidyanath on 15 February 1994 as the successor of Gorakhnath Temple, the most prominent monastery of the Nath sect.

This was a blistering entry of an 'angry young man' in Gorakhpur politics.


Gorakhnath Math

Adityanath renounced his family in 1993, at the age of 21 and became a disciple of Mahant Avaidyanath, the then high priest of Gorakhnath Math.He was promoted to the rank of Mahant or high priest of the Gorakhnath Math after the death of his teacher Mahant Aavaidyanath on 12 September 2014. Yogi Adityanath was made Peethadhishwar (Head Seer) of the Math amid traditional rituals of the Nath sect on 14 September 2014.

Yogi Adityanath father Death

 Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s father, Anand Singh Bisht, passed away at Monday morning at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi. He was admitted to the hospital  due to kidney and liver ailments.

While informing about his demise, UP State Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Awanish K Awasthi , in a statement reported by news agency ANI said, "Honourable CM's father left for his heavenly abode at 10.44 am. Our deepest condolences."

In a big relief to farmers of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi on April 4, 2017, waived off the Rs 30,729 crore worth loan of small and marginal farmers in the state.

Yogi government is planning to run about 200 subsidised meal canteens throughout the state under ‘Annapurna Bhojnalayas’ model. Aimed to provide heavily subsidised nutritious meal to the economically weak people, the scheme seeks to offer breakfast for Rs 3 and lunch for as little as Rs 5.
